What makes a Healthy Relationship?

Undoubtedly there are many ingredients for a successful relationship such as:

  • Good communication

  • Mutual Respect

  • Trust

  • Honesty

  • Fairness

  • Fun

Perhaps the most important element is TIME.

Time to listen, time to enjoy each other, time to work on being friends. Without time, a relationship is at risk of failing as couples disconnect and grow apart.

When relationships are new they are given all the time they deserve to understand, connect and to love each another. Time alone together allows us to:

  • Understand and ask each other questions

  • Show affection

  • Work on communication skills

  • Solve problems

Here are some suggestions to nurture a healthy relationship:

  1. Switch off technological gadgets and talk about your day.

  2. Sit down with a cup of tea or coffee and just be together. Remind yourselves how much you enjoy the other’s company.

  3. Arrange a regular date night and maybe stretch it to an annual weekend away, or a local adventure where you can reconnect and nurture your time together alone.

We need to keep in tune with the changes happening in our partner’s life and we cannot do this without spending time alone together. By committing to keep your relationship fueled and fresh it will go from strength to strength.
